Hello all, this is my first post in the f-150 section as I drive a 250. I bought a 97 f-150 today that needs a little work. The mileage is 96,365 and I noticed that after driving it back to the job site the mileage hadnt changed at all. The speedometer and all other gauges work. Odo and trip odo are the only ones that dont work. Can anyone point me in the right direction on finding the problem? What can cause this? How easy of a fix will this be? Thanks in advance guys
Just to clarify the mileage itself is not changing or its not showing up every time you start the truck.
It would have to show up considering no 97's have digital odometers, or am I understanding the question wrong. The mileage is not changing at all. The dials dont move.
Could possibly be stripped gears in the Odo...
Try fiddling with the trip odo reset.
My T-Bird did the same thing once, and it was just jammed.
Fiddling with the trip reset freed it up.
The good thing is if the odo gears are stripped, you can swap the speedo on a 97 with out much hassle since they don't have PATS....
Just got in the house from messing with it.... took the entire cluster out and disassembled it. The drive gear on the motor that moves the odometer has fallen apart. Does anyone know if I can get the motor as a part or if I will have to buy an entire cluster?
