Has anyone made their own cat delete for a stock exhaust? Could I just buy a pice of pipe and make it work or??? Just curious on what people have done. Thanks
A lot of people just run a bar through the cat and hollow it out.
I've thought about that...but I'm on the fence. No where with-in 175 of me is doing EPA testing...of any form (that I'm aware of). So there is no reason for the blessed thing to be there in my mind. But I'm having a heck of a time finding 3.5" pipe to put a delete in there. Yeah I could get a 4" Turbo back system and be done with it...but starting at $400 (and up) isn't a quick and cheap fix. Anyone had any troubles "bar-ing" their cat?
Nope, lots of people do it. I plan on doing it when I get a chance, and I purchased a used exhaust with cat so I have a spare if I have to put it back on in the future.
I too thought about knocking out the inside of my cat, but found it much easier to just purchase the cat delete pipe for the stock exhaust. And when and if I ever need it back on, and I have. Its just two nuts on the front and loosen the back clamp all in about 10 minutes.
Just picked up a 4" Magnaflow from XDP on clearance, plus they've got a 10% off coupon code right now. I added a 5" stainless tip to mine, free shipping, came to $373. Best part, after I got it I found out it comes with both a cat delete pipe and adapters if you want to use your factory cat. MBRP cat delete pipe is like $80. If you don't buy the polished tip, you're at $338 for a complete 4" stainless system. I couldn't pass up that deal. Now I just gotta put it on.
Yeah I don't have a spare cat so I think I'm out on the hollowing out of the cat? Cmcowboy where did you order yours from and how much? I was hoping someone had just bought a spare piece of exhaust pipe and made it work?????

Sorry, XDP, Extreme Diesel Performance, think they're a sponsor here? Bought a couple things there, always had good service. Box it came in looked like hell, but everything's there. Can't argue with the price either. I can check the part #, it's in my garage right now. Mine's for crew cab, fits long or short bed model. Might be different for a Supercab.
A friend made is out of a PTO cover off of some older equipment because back then they were steel. So if you are looking for a cheap easy way to do it and have some welding skills it will work. The cone part (once cut off and flipped around) of the cover makes a perfect seal to go where the cat bolts up. The hardest part was making the flange that bolts it up. The best part is that it was free cause he is from the farm and had one laying around. So if you know some farmers or are on Im sure they or you have on laying around also.
