Has anyone had any experience with purchasing an FiCM from auto computer exchange? Their website says they have a 1 year warranty. The procedure apparently is to send them your old FICM (for exchange) and your PCM, and they mate the two (yes, they say it will be your PCM), and send them back with the latest Ford flash. No trip to the dealer. I'd love to have anyone's thoughts on this. This is for a rebuilt FICM and runs about $495.00. One thought here for others who try this: I do a lot of shipping, and I would make sure that the PCM and FICM are very well packed and insured for whatever it would cost to have your vehicle towed to the nearest ford dealer and have both replaced with no core or exchange. The chances that this would happen are a bit remote, but now and then UPS, FEDEX, etc. do lose packages, and this is probably what you would be up against if, God forbid, the package never turned up. Insurance is relatively cheap ... leave yourself a way out!!!
I checked the PHP website and did not see anywhere where they sell reman. FICM's, but did e-mail them and ask. Also, the price that I got at Ford is $495.00 as well, plus $105.00 to mate it with the PCM and program it, but they must have the vehicle, which means a tow, which will not be real cheap due to my location. Other thought that I asked PHP is if they could mate and program the FICM with a superior program if I sent them the FICM and the PCM. I will post when I get a reply.
i think they would be able to because i have read the people buy a spare FICM send it to get custom programed buy PHP or ID. you would probably need to send them you strategy though. let us know what you find out and good luck getting your truck back up running.
FWIW--you don't have to "mate" the FICM to the PCM to have it work correctly. It will throw a U0306 communication code, but it won't cause you any running concerns.
Also, PHP had recently posted that they had purchased some used FICM's so they might be willing to do an exchange if yours is still good.
Thanks, that's good information, it definitely gives me a couple of options! I could always forgo the 'mating' for now, in the interest of getting it on the road, and worry about that later. I appreciate your time.
Also, Adambomb, thanks also, and I will keep this thread up to date. It's amazing how much you can read on this forum and still have a few details that you weren't aware of.
I never did a FICM with ACE, but I have purchased a PCM from them. They took the VIN and programmed the PCM. They shipped it to me with a pre-paid mailer to return the core. Great service and the PCM works as it should.

Hi there! Bill's going to be giving you a shout tomorrow because he wants to clarify something, and it would be easier over the phone vs. e-mail tag.
Have a wonderful night. We look forward to speaking with you!
