I was wondering who has bought shocks for there 65-66 f100 twin I beam?
If so... What is available for our trucks? what kind did you buy and are you happy with them?
I would like some input before i buy. Thanks
looking to buy Gas shocks, KYB and Koni has them but they are my 2nd choice, Bilstine has the one's i really want but they only list back to 1970... do you think they are the same shocks from 65 to 70? i'm talking about front and rear shocks.
Thanks
The easiest way to see the applications that it will cover is to go to the parts store and ask to see the Monroe Shock book. Check the 65-66 year part numbers then look at the 1970 part number. If the number are the same you can safely bet that the Bilsteins will work on the earlier applications. Or just call Bilstein directly to see if they have the documentation covering back to those years. Most of the time I find newer catalogs end up ommiting previous years due to the # of cars/trucks that just came on the market. Most parts stores if they have a commercial counter will have the older catalogs stock piled under the counter in case they need to pull an old # to crossreference to the new part #.
The front shocks will interchange no problem. As far as the rears, if the 70's has the same kind of mounts, they will work. If I remember right, the bottom is a loop and the top is a stud.
I have not bought any shocks for my 65, I did buy shocks for another truck a couple of months ago. I picked up ranchos rs5000 for my sons dakota, but I not thrilled with them. I did find 2 very old but new in the box Monroe gasmatics in the shed that i put on the 65 just temporary stop gap measures... why?... i dont know, it's not like i can take it anywhere.
