new engine

I have a 64 f100 custom cad and I want to put a new engine in it. What engines would be a direct bolt on without any mods. 300??? I think I have a 240 or a 223

A 223 or 262 would be correct for 64. if the intake and exhaust are on the drivers side you have one of those two engines.

Those are the only two engines that just "drop" in.
A 292 V8 will slide in but you do need some parts.

NONE, NOTTA, sorry. There are mount kits available for side mount upgrade, though.

I have the 223. The intake and carb are on the drivers side on that engine.

By dual exhaust you mean headers?
Which side of the vehicle is the intake on?

You have either a 223 or a 262 then. Someone else will have to tell you how to tell the difference.

I think the taller valve cover on the 262 is one way to tell.

edit: wrong... they look the same (i did a google search) the blocks look a little different
if you have a way to chech the stroke it should be 4.03 for the 262.

I believe one way to tell is that the oil cap on the valve cover is in the middle on the 262, while it is at the front on the 223.

I thought all 262s came with a factory twin turbo, fuel injection, and burned unicorn farts.

Are you looking to rebuild this engine or git rid of it gvilleharley? The 223 is a good reliable engine for the most part and major parts are still avialable. The 262 is good, but harder to find parts for.

precision sells a reman 223 for about $1900 not counting the $750 core.
Finding a 223 in good shape to use will be kinda hard. If the one you have runs I would sugest looking for a good core and having that rebuilt then doing the swap.
Should cost about $1200-1400 with a carb kit and new clutch in it too.
Rebuild kits are about $750 and machine work should cost about $300-400 if you do the assembly yourself.
