Turbo nap with white smoke....

(I posted this in the super duty forum, but this may be a better spot to post this question)

I posted a couple weeks ago about my turbo hanging up on me around 20psi....well it happened again a couple of times today but this time when I looked out of my rearview I saw a bunch of white smoke.

Just to clarify, I was getting onto the interstate and stomped on the accelerator. The turbo got to about 20 and then started fluttering/stumbling and as I mentioned I noticed white smoke in the rearview. My truck had already gone into and finished a regen before this happened. Additionally the gauges never budged, and I got no CEL.

I brought the truck to the dealer right @ 5:00 so they could check it out first thing in the morning....

any ideas of what I may be in for would be great.

also, i had the dealer change the fuel filter(s) and oil last week...so I would think that would not be a culprit.

Here is the info you need. Bring it to the dealer's attention tomorrow. Easy fix, less than an hour after they get the part in.

Man this drives me nuts.....
I got a call from the dealership this evening and of course they blamed it all on regen.

I had called and pointed out the TSB you directed me to, but obviously I spent too much time on the internet, and on top of that I'm not an ASE Cert. Mechanic, so any suggestions I bring to the table should most certainly be ignored!

I'm going to go and get it tomorrow morning, drive it for a few days and if it keeps on happening, bring it to another dealer.

Lots of times the diesel tech. would be the only one to know about the TSB's. The service writers, managers usually don't know squat about the diesels. At my dealer there is 1 diesel tech and then there is another guy, the shop manager that have gone to school on the 6.4 and also are going to 6.7 school.

that's one of the reasons I've been using this dealership. it just opened up a fleet service center and only services trucks, vans etc.

it just cracks me up that the first words out of the svc writers mouth were regen, and the tsb specifically says that the white smoke is not a symtom of regen.

Sometimes you have to be more assertive with a Service writer to get your point across. Talk to the technician if possible.

The more you try to talk to the service writer, the more defensive they become, and more than one of them have told me there is a strict policy not to let the customer talk to the mechanic. I have been to all the dealers in the city over the past few years dealing with that p.o.s. diesel, and it is maddening to the point of becoming violent trying to talk to those idiots. This is why I recommended jason at banner, he is the only one that is open minded, but is still in that gene pool of service advisors.
