I bought a used trans from a reputable salvage yard with 36,000 miles on it and I need a little more info on this OD light flashing thing or how to pull the codes.
Mark Kovalsky posts here and he's a retired Ford trans engineer, but I'm sure he's gonna need more info just like we do.
You need to find someone with a PSD compatible code reader like a Predator, SCT Xcal II, or Auto Enginuity tool.
The regular scanners you can use at Autozone and Kragens don't work with the PSD's.
Once you find a scanner that will read your codes, post them up here or in the 7.3L PSD forum so we can help.

PS - The reason the OD light is flashing is because you are setting a trans related code. The SES light in the dash is for engine related codes and the OD light flashing is for trans codes.

I too will be interested in the diagnosis of this issue. This happened to me for the first time (OD light flashing) on my '02 PDS while pulling through the Smoky mountains this weekend. I've pulled a 32 ft. trailer since 2003 and have never had any issues with the transmission.
I've got a DP Tuner with 40 HP tow, and I locked out OD for the mountain climb. Just a little while later, after OD was unlocked, I noticed it flashing, and when it shifted to OD, it was a very hard shift. After getting to the campground, shutting it down, then restarting it, I never had any problems all weekend long or on the way back home.
Not sure if my transmission is going out or some fluke happened. I've got 145k miles and usually it tows like a dream. I've had regular transmission maintenance performed, but may take it in and have it checked out soon.
