1997 f250 7.3 drawing a code 124 replaced the tps no effect od light flashing and erratic shifting!what is the procedure for checking the 3 wires from the tps. thanks.
What do you mean by a "code 124"? All the codes should be 5 characters long.
Best way to test the TPS is to use whatever device you're using to obtain codes and set it up to read live data, and check Accelerator Pedal Position % and Accelerator Pedal Positon Volts. Operate the pedal and watch the numbers. You can do this key-on engine-off if you want.
Ok, I am using an actron obd2 to try and get codes. when i check for codes i get error data link connection. no codes . but on the state check I get 124. I can not read live data. I tried 2 other obd2 meters. the same thing.
So if you couldn't obtain a code, on what basis did you replace the APS?
Not sure what you mean by "state check", but the truck is not standard OBD-II. You need a device that will communicate with the "Ford Enhanced" protocol. Common options:
- Stand-alone plug-in - Snap-On MT2500 with the right cables and K2-A key
- Dash gauge format - AeroForce Interceptor
- PC/laptop - AutoEnginuity, or some folks have gotten Forscan (free) to work with USB/Bluetooth ELM327 dongles
- Android devices - USB/bluetooth dongle with Torque Pro (live data) and Car Gauge Pro (diag codes) apps
I've gotten a ScanGauge II (rectangular dash-top device) to read some live data, but it will not obtain codes.
The other obvious option is to pay the dealer to obtain codes.
I am beginning to think the new module has to be re-flashed. does it have to be done at the dealership?!!!!!! or can it be done at a local truck repair shop?
