Trans O/D light flashing
Just replaced transmission, but the OD light is flashing, where should I look? Any ideas?

bring it right back to the place you got it replaced. should have a warrenty? but you could pull the code and see what its doing.

You need the code to ascertain why the trouble light was activated.
Like Alaska posted, take it back to the place that replaced the trans and have them diagnose it. Stewart |
Sorry guys, I should have gave more info.
I bought a used trans from a reputable salvage yard with 36,000 miles on it and I need a little more info on this OD light flashing thing or how to pull the codes. Thanks Any trans guys on here? |
Mark Kovalsky posts here and he's a retired Ford trans engineer, but I'm sure he's gonna need more info just like we do.
You need to find someone with a PSD compatible code reader like a Predator, SCT Xcal II, or Auto Enginuity tool. The regular scanners you can use at Autozone and Kragens don't work with the PSD's. Once you find a scanner that will read your codes, post them up here or in the 7.3L PSD forum so we can help. Stewart PS - The reason the OD light is flashing is because you are setting a trans related code. The SES light in the dash is for engine related codes and the OD light flashing is for trans codes. |
Was the light flashing before you replaced the transmission? If it was the original code is still in there and needs to be cleared.

I too will be interested in the diagnosis of this issue. This happened to me for the first time (OD light flashing) on my '02 PDS while pulling through the Smoky mountains this weekend. I've pulled a 32 ft. trailer since 2003 and have never had any issues with the transmission.
I've got a DP Tuner with 40 HP tow, and I locked out OD for the mountain climb. Just a little while later, after OD was unlocked, I noticed it flashing, and when it shifted to OD, it was a very hard shift. After getting to the campground, shutting it down, then restarting it, I never had any problems all weekend long or on the way back home. Not sure if my transmission is going out or some fluke happened. I've got 145k miles and usually it tows like a dream. I've had regular transmission maintenance performed, but may take it in and have it checked out soon. |
When the original Trans failed it Displayed
These codes: P1000 P0741 P1744 PO740 P0743 P0750 P0753 P0755 P0758 P1746 P1754 So I cleared these codes and all came up again except P0741 & P1744 When the original Trans failed it Displayed These codes with new trans: P1000 PO740 P0743 P0750 P0753 P0755 P0758 P1746 P1754 Mark, I'll edit this post and input the descriptions as well. |
New Codes:
P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction P0743 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Electrical P0750 Shift Solenoid A Malfunction P0753 Shift Solenoid A Electrical P0755 Shift Solenoid B Malfunction P0758 Shift Solenoid B Electrical P1746 Electronic Pressure Control Solenoid - Open circuit P1754 Coast Clutch Solenoid circuit malfunction Old Codes: P1744 Torque Converter Clutch System Stuck in Off Position P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off |
It sure looks like the transmission harness isn't plugged in. Every solenoid is showing an open circuit.
