I changed the fuel filters yesterday. I think the rail filter is leaking b/c I noticed a small wet spot under the truck. I looked underneath and could see fuel trail on the rail.
I had the torque wrench set at 20 from the engine mounted and did not reset to 18 for the rail. Could I have damaged the O ring by tightening too tight?? I can't say I have a lot of faith in the torque wrench either b/c I bought it at harbor freight.

shouldn't have been able to hurt the o ring, if you got it fuel wet before putting it on the cap..(make it slippery).. almost sounds like you didn't get the cap on all the way..
Don't use diesel on the O ring, it can make it swell and bind. Use motor oil, grease or vaseline. Cap should bottom out prior to torque wrench clicking.
Unfortunatly I used the diesel fuel being lazy and motorcraft said ok to use either. I will try to wife dry and then tighten some more when I get home.

instructions with the new MC filter said diesel was ok.
never had a rubber oring fail from diesel as a lube.

Ford also said cooling system needed no maint. till 105,000 miles or 5 years. Now they are backtracking. I remember when the doc said this won't hurt at all. He was right, it didn't hurt him. Your truck do as you want. My suggestion was from experience not directions in a box.
Checked underneath and no fresh fuel. I might have jumped the gun and worried about nothing. The fuel was probably remnants from when the filter came off and spilled.
Maybe next time I will try to wipe off spilled fuel so that way I know if it is leaking fuel or not. Well worth the hassle though. Dealer wanted $125 and it cost me $50 for filters and $8 for socket. Satisfaction is priceless.
I had my truck front end on the ramp up to my shop, so I could wiggle under it (4x2 so not lifted).. course the fuel ran ALL the way down the chassis...before I put the rag up there..
had the socket from some other fun time, first filter pack cost me 32 delivered.
