Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
It isn't like we are talking about new trucks here, which range between 21 to 26 years old. I have encountered some older threads which have more accurate information than newer threads on the same topic, when it comes to stock concerns.
If it was not OK to resurrect those threads with commentary that is squarely on topic, then FTE would lock older threads after some arbitrary length of time.
And if such a policy existed on FTE, upon what basis should an arbitrarily imposed time limit be established?
I cannot count the number of times that I've had a technical question about computer software or hardware, and when I visit the support page of the company responsible for the product, type in my search query and review the results... thread after thread with the exact same question is locked, due to no activity. So countless number of customers have the same question, yet the wheel has to be reinvented each time, due to an arbitrarily imposed time limit where the question is deemed no longer valid to discuss.
Anyway, you did nothing wrong. We don't lock threads here based on a time limit. We only lock threads when the members participating in the discussion become unruly, and while I have locked threads in other sub-forums, I don't think that I have ever locked a thread in this sub-forum, as all the regulars here are respectful of each other. In cases where I have locked threads in other sub-forums, I make every effort to reopen the thread, after dealing with the unruly actors individually, in private.
As for wanting to know how resurrecting an old thread can happen... I can think of a couple of ways.
1. FTE software employs artificial intelligence to find related threads, in a bid to keep you reading the forum, instead of wandering off to other websites. The way FTE presents the related threads is as a continuous scroll of the thread that you were previously reading. So, if you were reading a current thread about Nitto Grappler tires on 16" rims, the FTE software is scurrying in the background searching for related threads mentioning the same tires on the same size wheels, and as you work your way through all the posts in the current thread, the software presents earlier threads on the same specific topic, so seamlessly, it seems as if it is the same thread, because in fact the prior thread presented next is discussing the same topic.
2. Instead of AI searching automatically, most individuals find FTE by searching the internet (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Brave, whatever) for answers to their question or concern about a Ford truck. FTE happens to have a very high domain authority, and very high search result ranking, so invariably, search results will often include a thread or a photo from FTE. When the searcher clicks on an FTE result, they are not thinking "Oh, wait, I better check the posting date of this thread". No. The searchers are delighted to find the answer to their question, or at the very least gratified to find that someone else had the same problem or concern, and in fact it is being discussed. Thrilled to find kindred spirits on the same issue, the searcher responds to the thread to echo their own experience. There is nothing wrong with doing this. Why reinvent the wheel. The topic becomes fleshed out with more voices, and the solution is easier to find when having to only read through one thread.
