Stuck fuel filter

This thing is really giving me a headache now, had a friend over wrenching on it too and we can't get it to budge.

Tried PB Blaster, a wrap around filter wrench, and today the locking pliers style filter wrench... still no luck! The pliers style was starting to indent and score the filter pretty bad so I stopped.. hopefully it will still drive, no leaks.

Any other ideas? I have no idea how it could even be stuck on this good.

Zac

Pull harder, you will dent the filter... you need to take a leap of faith sometimes.

there is enough rib on top I have put on a regular vice grip on that rib and gotten them off.
I have seen my old man take a screwdriver, drive it into the side of the filter and out the other side, then use the handle for leverage! I personally would stay with the locking pliers filter wrench. If you score and dent it, so what it goes in the trash anyway!

Ok just making sure it's not going to rip through the side of the filter, what are the chances of that happening? Because that's what's deterring me from doing the screwdriver trick, don't want to end up not being able to drive and having an even worse problem on my hands.

Oh and I'm turning it the right way, over toward the air filter to the right looking down on the filter housing. Still can't get it to budge...

the worst one i ever had I had to take a chisel and hammer and hammer on the very top edge of the filter to get it started turning. I tried the screwdriver trick before that and the screwdriver just went all the way around and ripped the bottom of the filter off lol

try turning it the "wrong" way then, and she'll come right off for ya.

start towards the air filter/engine block/front of truck and turn outward of the truck in the direction of the fender.this will be left/loosen.

lmao johnboggs! iv had that happen with an oil filter once lol.

lol ive mutilated my fair share of filters before. Lucky the ones on our trucks are pretty easy to get to. Ive worked on a lot of big trucks that put them in such stupid places you got to twist your arm five different ways and theirs no room to put a wrench on them. Those ones are fun lol

Heres the filter on a 2012 dmax

If its corrosion that's got it hung up sometimes tightening it will break it free so it will loosen up easy for ya. Its worked for me in the past.

Are you saying that looking down overhead, I'd be turning to the left? Because I've been turning to the right all of this time. I'm standing over on the passenger side and clamping my wrench on and then pushing it toward the air filter (turning to the right).

Hammer a good thick screw driver through the filter and turn towards the driver side.

Ok cool, so I am turning it the right way.

I'm considering doing that, Onus, but I'd hate to make this mess worse by having a hole in the filter and still not being able to get it off, or having the filter tear.

There is a thick inner metal core in the filters. Shouldn't have any problem with tearing.

Still hoping to not have to do that.. but it might come to that today because I'm fed up and would rather not take it to the shop for something silly like this.

Lets get this straight. Leaning over the pass. fender with the handle of the filter wrench pointing at the radiator, pull towards the pass. fender.
