Gotta do the intank mods, plan on ordering the Itp kit. but find that it is available with or with out the filter. for about 1/2 the price.
Since I'm new to with or with out, somebody gimme some advice please.
If I get the filter will it change the available pressure / suction from the pump?
Will I have to change this out often? is it really an option or mistake with or without it?
Thanks.
John
If you get rid of the screens in the tank you have to put a filter inline. Unless you are going for major horse power this will not affect things. Most seem to like this one: http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...ter+%2f+Custom
The option is there for those that may already have a good-quality pre-pump filter installed.
The inlet to the fuel pump has a fine mesh screen and will clog if no filtration is provided before the pump. Normally, this is built into the tank fuel pickup assembly, but the in-tank kit removes it, so additional filtration should be added.
Crud clogging that screen is the quickest way to have to replace your pump.
Okay I'll order the kit with-out the filter and get the NAPA add-on so i can see the accumulation. Unless some one knows of a better place to order. They are closed today. thanks for the replies.
I just put that Napa one inline. I was using a paper element type, but switched to this one for two reasons. One is that it's more like the screens in the pickup assy, and two, because I can get replacement elements for the Napa one for aboud $9 for three. That filter comes apart and you can replace the screens very easily.
Thanks Joe and Ranger. Nice pics Ranger.
I'll take this opportunity to ask a question that I know SOMEONE else SOMEWHERE must also want to know the answer to. WHAT IS "IIRC"???
I personally think the huge Baldwin is overkill. All you need is a course screen for the pump, then the main filter/water separator up front will still do its job. I like that implementation because it's easily inspected if bad fuel is suspected. Guess how I know...
Here's the older style I used that saved my bacon shortly after I did my in-tank mods:
And yes, it was obvious when my truck petered out and I crawled under there and checked it.
I knew I had seen that NAPA filter posted on here before but didn't find it in my search. thanks for the adice. I also figured the large filter may be way more than needed. I'll go with the Napa .

My pics are posted on WebShots. They have a tool that lets you easily copy code from the page the pic is on and paste it directly in a forum message. Presto, your pic shows up. It ranges in size from 100 pixels to 600 max. I always use 600...
