Thinking I'm going to try to pulls the trans on my 350 and send it out to be rebuilt. I havent done this before and was wondering if anyone has a step by step guide or knows where to find one. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!
A good trans jack and strap it down real good!!!! Leave the transfer case attached. Mine balanced perfectly that way. Get lots of extensions to beable to remove the top bolts on top of the trans You pretty much have to be back by the rear axle to feed the extensions up and over the trans... LOL
I can't remember if it is best to leave it in neutral... but you will need to be able to spin it to get to the bolts in the torque converter.
Everything else is pretty straight forward. unbolt driveshafts, bottom toque converter cover, bolts in the torque converter, unhook the shifter, the transmission cooler lines, then pull the trans crossmember and let her down... It was kind of a challenge to get the trans out from under the truck... even with a 6" lift. We actually lifted the front end with a forklift to get it out without dragging it on the concrete. I am sure there is more other people can add...
Oh and when you go to start it... make sure the shifter is in neutral or P... if it isn't it won't start... it won't start even if the shifter is slightly to one side or the other of the P or N...
Bigol350 i just thought of this also. go to autozone or napa. some place like that. buy a repair manual for your truck. like a hanes or something. they give pretty good step by step instructions on how to do just about everything on our trucks.
