I have bought a 94 5.0 out of a Mustang to install in my 54 F100. As I was moving it into my shop 3 of the lifters fell out (it doesn't have an intake or pushrods on it - I thought they were in tight enough to stay put). There are some markings stamped on them, so I don't think I can just put them back in any order. How might I determine which holes they came out of?
To answer you question it doesn't matter what hole the lifters go in, they are interchangable... assuming they are roller lifters with a roller on the end that touches the cam.
If this is a real 5.0HO and you got a complete motor then there should be a spider and digbones in the lifter valley which prevent the the lifters from not only falling out but turning in the bores. Do you have these pieces? If not you will need them.
I don't have those and yes I know I need them. I don't know if that is an autozone piece or Ford dealer or even a pull-a-part yard item. I thought it only consisted of the dogbones. I didn't know it had the spider tray with it.
I got the parts you see in the pic from a junkyard.. pretty much any 5.0 car after 1988 and truck after 1992 has a motor you can pull these parts from. Also see these parts on Ebay once in a while.
