hydraulic lifters

how are hydraulic lifters differnet than regular lifters? do they somehow work differently? i was just wondering because i read in the service manual for my truck (1994 f150, I-6) that it has hydraulic lifters. is there some kind of hydraulic fluid in them, because ive never heard of having put hydraulic fluid in anywhere for lifters. Also, are hydraulic lifters better or more durable than non hydraulic lifters?

thanks

Hydraulic because of the action of their operation.

Engine oil is what fills the cavity of the lifter to give it the hydraulics in the actuation of the pushrod by the inside of the lifter.... while the outside of the lifter rides against the camshaft.

Hydraulic lifters run quieter than solid or mechanical lifters

Here's a page to read.

Are all 94-up 302's roller blocks? If not, is there any website that I could check with like my VIN to see? I *really* don't want to check in this cold weather we had come in.

Dennis, would you be so kind as to take your Canadian air back.

Whats the difference?

What is the difference between solid lifters and hydrulic lifters? And what are the pro's and con's of each? I have the same question about solid and "free moving" rocker arms. My bronco II has hydrulic lifters and soild rockers and i wanted to know what they ment.
