A solid lifter has to have some sort of lash setting around .020 to .030. The lash setting is the gap between the rocker and the valve tip. This is needed since the lifter is solid there has to be some room for forgiveness. A hydr. lifter takes up the slack and never needs to be readjusted like a solid does. A solid will make noise when idling due to the lash. Sounds like loose rockers.
You will need to remove the valve cover to check for sure and if you have a solid cam you will not have pedestal style heads. They should have screw in studs if they are late model heads. Early model heads can run solid lifters without screw in studs but not recommended since the push in stud can pull out of the head unless it's pinned in place.
