I was driving around a dirt lot the other day and decided to give the 4x4 system a little test. I have a 1993 with the 5.8 and everyone's favorite push button system.
When I select 4 HI, the light comes on and I can tell that she goes into 4 HI. When I push the button for 4 LO, the light does not come on. I can't say that I hear anything or notice any difference in how she's driving. Am I (a) not doing something right? (b) dealing with a burnt-out indicator light? or (c) not able to get into 4 LO which means I'm going to get a lot less if I actually sell this thing?
You have to stop completly and put the transmission into N before it will let you shift to low range. Also I think you have to allready be in normal 4x4 too.
On my 91, which I dont know if the system carried over to the 93 MY, 4Hi is shift on the fly to some extent. 4Lo required to be already in 4HI and the transmission in neutral. Then getting out had to go to 4Hi before disengaging the system.
