i finally figured out what the cut in the paint was above the cladding. my truck in its previous life must have been some kind of promo truck. it used to have a full body wrap on it..i've found chunks of sticker under all the doors and more cut lines around the emblems and such..which means more reason for custom paint..we'll see what summer brings for that.
Just read this thread, never thought it would be so easy to pull the cladding off. Actually never really thought of pulling the cladding off. Will have to take a good look at this in the morning!
I know it's an old thread, maybe you'll pop in and answer, but how hard was it to remove the pinstripe? I want to "white out" my Ex, and that pinstripe is in the way of doing this.
it was a pain in the ***. mine was the painted on crap. i used a combo of the eraser wheel on the drill and paint thinner to get it off. i only got one side off, kept putting off doing the other side and ended up selling the truck like that haha
Haha, good stuff. I think mine isn't painted on, or at least I hope not. We shall see. I wonder if it would just pull off by some dumb luck. I can feel it on there, so that's what makes me think it isn't the painted on kind.
I really like that. Do you, or any of you guys here know, if I bought the step bars with the lights in them, are the wires already there on the XLT? I've read some places that all wiring harnesses were the same, so all wires for things are there, but never got any sort of confirmation. After I get that pinstripe off, gotta get the white tow mirrors and white door handles, what about white step bar?
Now you need to paint the door handles. Even painting just the pulls would look good.
you may already know this.... lots of times the black parts that aren't painted at the factory have that dimpled finish on the plastic... but the parts meant to be painted have a smooth finish. I learned this on my 2000 jeep cherokee... sport models came with black (dimpled) bumper corners... my classic came with painted (smooth) bumper corners. so basically it cost me extra to get the smooth ones and then i had to pay to get them painted... fun fun
I've been lingering here for a while. This forum has save me tons of money and given me lots of ideas. I'm going to do the Harley headlight change here soon thanks to some of the comments you guys have made.
I have a 2000 ex limited that I love. White with the tan. Mine still has the cladding.
I would like to try something different with the cladding since mine recently aquired a "bruise" on the right rear quarter. Would anyone who removed their cladding be interested in disposing of same at a reasonable price? I know its not a popular trim, but I thought I might try a textured effect in the same white, almost like a bed liner roughness.
yeah, now that i have a limited i dont plan to remove it.
what started this all was the pass side door cladding on my '04 XLT you see on the first page started coming off. so i said screw it i'll remove it all! haha it worked out though..truck looked real clean.
