I agree with you. I have poisoned myself so to speak. When you get LSD instead of ULSD you will pay for the next two tank fulls. It is like telling your on board computer, GOTTCHA!
I almost ran out of fuel a few months back and got stuck at a station with one of those pumps all by itself. NOT RED FUEL, maybe worse. I had driven about six hours, and when I woke up, OOOPS, I was filling with LSD.
I just wish the FED would mandate 45 CETANE fuel with whatever specs the engines are built to use. That is the weak link in the chain, IMHO!
@Waco. I didn't mean to come off as insulting the intelligence of police officers. I was simply saying that it's not in their training to know about emissions systems, and unless they are into vehicles a decent amount, they won't know much about them. This makes it very unlikely that the standard police officer will know about the DPF system ford just put into place starting on the 2008 model. I understand it's "the law", but count how many laws you break in one day. Also, I don't think mr state highway patrolman can write a fine for emissions equipment, but I haven't taken government for 2 years, so my laws are a little rusty, and I tested out of college govt so they'll prolly stay rusty haha
I saw it in PA. If a trooper doesn't have scales in his trunk (hahahha) then he calls a number and a weight team come. The guy overweight gets nailed. Happens often, especially now with STATES facing money shorts.
So what is the difference. See a smoker. See a FORD. READ this site. Knock off a few guys with engine mods, and see what happens.
It is a FEDERAL law, about do not touch the exhaust system. Go to any real McCoy Ford Truck garage and read the big notice at the service desk.
i still think that's retarded, but like I said, don't run the smoking race tune and keep it at a speed that won't get you pulled over. In that case I don't think he'll be able to tell. About the scales that's understandable, in Ohio speed limits 65 for under 8000 GVW and 55 for vehicles over. Of course there's going to be a debate about how heavy the vehicle is, but unless the trucks smoking up the highway I really can't see a cop asking to look at your dpf, that'd just be kinda creepy
Hey Guys, I'm new to this area and been reading your post about the 6.4 regen problems and comments. Now I must ask what is to some a dumb question. Can someone please tell me exactly what is Job 1, job 2 and job 3? How do I determine exactly what "job" my 2008 F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab, 4x4, King Ranch is? I'm experencing many of the problems mentioned and would like very much to fix them?
I now have 7599 miles on my 08 350 and I have yet to see the message about "cleaning". I was concerned so I asked the service manager if I needed to have the computer reflashed and said he said not to worry until it starts to run poorly. I seldom drive short distances so maybe that had something to do with it.
It is probably doing it under the old program and you just don't get notification. Are there any funny noises that crop up at random? During regen there are some minor noises that will occur.
Thanks WACO JOE I did not know there was an old program. I read the service bulletin and thought that the message was standard for the 6.4. So that is good information to know. I hear different rumbles from the exhaust but I have never experiences the white smoke or significant loss of power. The truck seems be running fine and from what I read is the normal timing of the REGEN it must be going happening or seems some bad things should be happening by this time.fficeffice" /><O></O>
the regen does not always cause a noticable loss of power. When I am pulling the trailer, I notice a little loss. The biggest problem is the fuel economy is less with this system. The other problem was when it started the regen when the truck was at idle. The idle rpm would jump up, weird noises, and the exhaust stinks to high heaven, and the exhaust was hot enough to burn your leg if you walked past the tailpipe. The new program will not allow a regen at idle. That prevents most of the problems. But the regen uses raw fuel dumped into the exhaust to burn up the particles, increases the use of EGR to the point of needing a EGR cooler, and heats the exhaust temp to 'near' meltdown. Decreased fuel economy, weird noises, slight decrease in power, and general nuisance, is the problems of "DPF Regeneration". Check the "recalls" on 2008 6.4L trucks to see if all of them have been done to your vehicle.
Thanks for the help WACO JOE sure enough I have not had this TSB 08-25-9 VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 1/3/2008 AND 9/15/2008 which relates to the message display. I will have the dealer take care of it next time in.
