I checked my tranny build date- I've got one from June 19, 2001. From what I've read (actualy it was Mark K on dieselstop) there were no mechanical diodes installed after March 2001. I'm excited! So, does this mean my tranny will stand up to a chip better?
Is there an easy visual check you can do to see if you have the diode? I was just wondering. Mine is a 2000 model but it was built in late 99.
The easy visual check is that if it was built between July, 2000, and March, 2001, it had the mechanical diode. Before July, 2000 and after March, 2001 they did not have the mechanical diode.
Look on the driver's side sticker on the tranny. There is a code. Mine was BD-1F19. This is dissected to 1=2001, F=6th month=June, 19= 19th. So, mine was built JUne 19, 2001. This would seem to be more accurate than reading the doorsticker, just in case the tranny sat around for a while before it was installed.
what is so bad about this trans. not sure if i have one or not, but i just had my trans rebuilt about a year ago and it is holding up well. i told the guy that built it ( a trans shop in my town) that i wanted it beefed up. and i went with a tugger kit. is the problem something that can be fixed or not?
yes, anyone who knows anything about the 4r100 should have replaced the immediate drum and sprag assembly with the non-mechanical diode version used in all the other 4r's.
after all, most rebuild manuals specifically state, "if your tranny has these parts, DO NOT REUSE THEM"
Here's the weird thing. My door sticker build date is November 2000. How does that work?
Haven't you ever noticed that the new model years come out at the end of the previous year, usually around Septemberish? You'll start seeing 2010 models on the lots in a couple months.
