i have a 90 Bronco automatic with overdrive and recently the transmission has been makeing a large knock when it shifts in and out of overdrive, and now its starting to make a smaller but similar knock going into and out of 3rd gear. Also when shifting in and out of OD above 60 mph it doesn't knock but vibrate. Am i looking at major transmission problems or it is something somewhat minor. thanks
I have a 1990 F150 302 AOD. I got this about three month ago and have not been happy with it at all. I have a question for you in regards to the vibration you said you feel. Does it feel more like a bucking feeling like no power.
the knock seems to originate from right below the front flooboards, like right where the tranny meets the engine, and the vibrations is when i either hit the gas or let up and its almost like the tranny is trying so hard to change gears or something. its hard to explain. i'm going to bring my truck in for a look so see what the mech says, i'll let you know what happens.
Good luck make sure thay don't rake you over the coals.
I hardly use my OD unless it is flat and 55 mph or more. When it shifts in to OD it has a loud thunk and unless I let up on the gas at 55 it wont shift tell about 60+ and the rpm drop to 1500 if I go up any incline in the road it slows down and some times will feel like it has a slight bucking feeling. If it is a real steep hill I have to shift it to D and rap out at 2800 to 3200 rpm to get up at highway speeds such as 65+ I can't stand it and wish I wouldn't have bought the darn truck now. any help would be nice. It has had a full tune up runs fine around town lotts of pep around town and all.
well on the way to the garage i pulled to a stop sign and when i went to pull away i hear this really loud bang and something hit the ground. I get out and the rear yoke snaped right in half. Right now its in the shop waiting for repair. i'll keep you updated but you should get your looked at.
I been waiting to get it checked $$$$$$ it will run ok for now.
Sorry to hear what happened yet atleast that kinda narrows down your problem when it drops right out from under neath you. Hope it don't cost to much. let me know if it was just the yoke or if some thing else caused the yoke to snap.
I finally got my truck back today, they replaced the u joint and the rear yoke. The total came to $211
Rear Yoke 37.88
U Joint 21.64
Towing 50.00
Labor 90.00
i have yet to fully test the new transmission joint out but the knock seems to be totally gone. hope this helps.
