Dave is the aussie locker for the wheeler of the DD?
I may have found some used 36" tires for sale, now I just need to find 16" rims for them. Now I need to find out what rim will fit my 5 bolt pattern but still hold a 14" wide tire. Any idea's?
Nice one! So another wheeling trip will have to be in order for your dd. Are you planning on throwing it in anytime soon?
I'll have to do some looking for a reasonable rim in that size. Honestly hate to buy a 5 lug rim again when I know I really want to sas it and I'm sure I will need a different bolt pattern and of course bigger tires. haha
I'm thinkin maybe friday of puttin it in. Depending on what axle you put under the front the bolt pattern might be the same. If u use a D44 out of any 1/2 ton Ford the pattern will be the same. If you go to a D60, than you would want to swap out the rear axle to a 8 lug too.
Good plan. How long does it take to install a locker, roughly?
I guess I always figured if I did the swap I'd have to do a 3/4 ton or larger axle to make it worth it. I just haven't found any yet. I've made quite a few offers on bisman but no go's yet.
I'm really not sure how long its going to take. I have to pull the carrier out of the rear axle and pull the ring gear off or grind a tooth down a bit in order to pull the cross pin out of the carrier to get the spider gears out. I wouldn't have to do that if I wouldn't have 4.56s. So I'm guessin from start to fin, maybe 2 hours.
As for you axle for a sas, a 3/4 ton axle could be a D44, or a D50/D60 all depending on the year you get it from. For your pickup, you would want to find a D60 out of a 85-97 F350. I personally wouldn't do a sas on my own pickup and only put another D44 under it. The TTB isn't as bad of a axle as people say. Its just has an extra u joint to worrie about and its not as easy to pull the axle apart as a strait axle. But being you already hhave a lift kit in ur ttb, I would say best road would be some one tons out of a F350. But in all reality its all upo to you, I'm just letting you know what I would do if it where me.

I guess the main reason i really want to convert to sas is just to do it. I love getting into projects that I have a basic knowledge on; and figuring it out from start to finish. I learn a ton in the process. I guess since I sold my drag car I've been kinda looking for a project and it looks like the truck kinda found me. lol I guess it will take years but I hope to build a half way decent rig someday.
Sometimes I wonder if I should just sell my truck and buy a old f 350. Makes axle swapping much easier. Plus its not like my trucks anything special as it is. Why would you pick them specific years? I really have to do a lot more research into the matter. Someday I'll have to pick your brain and get a better understanding of the different axles.
Forgot to ask does the VSS sensor in my rear limit my choices to swap with?
85-97 because of the same body/frame layout. Basically has to do with the offset of the front "pumpkin". But if you do find a complete F350 of any year that had a strait axle would be a good thing. Sometimes you can find them for $1000 or less. But if u have ?s just ask.
