Ficm/idm
Ficm/idm
I am currious as to why the local service mgr. Tells me that you can not program a FICM but all the replys I have had from here tell me that if that is my problem when I purchase the new one it will have to be programed. This local service manager say it comes the way it is that you cannot program them he also said I am getting my info from guys that are not factory ford tech's and they don't know what they are saying> Ok Guys I'm really confused here
so whitch is it?
so whitch is it?
They have to be flashed.... The local ford guy in lubbock told me that the international idm/ficm would not work on a ford.... When infact ford has used them when they ran out of them. They do require a flash for a new one. A used one will mostlikely have software on it and might work. There is not to much avalible for the consumer to flash the ficm though. Innovative and power hungry performance are capible and others probably. Spartan is working on a 6.0 tuner capible of a ficm flash but I don't know if it is avalible yet. But the awnser is yes I can be flashed.
From the link:
PROGRAMMING
The FICM contains a “flash memory” which can be reprogrammed. Included in the memory is the
calibration or strategy which drives the injectors.
To program the FICM, a WDS tool downloads the new program information to the PCM which serves as a
gateway to the FICM. The PCM transfers the program to the FICM.
NOTE: Replacement FICMs do not contain software. They must be programmed prior to use.
If there is no pre-cycle with the new module, it could be an indication that the module is not programmed.
Loss of power or CAN2 communication can also cause this condition. Check for DTCs to comfirm power
or communication loss.

Maybe it's just a misunderstanding, and he was saying that you can't directly program the FICM.
If not, you should probably go to another dealer.

sSo if I purchase a new a refurbished FICM and give my VIN# it should come preprogramed? Also there is a company out of Florida who sells them for $495.00 plus S&H that waranty's them for the life spand that yoy own the vehicle they have been in business for over 20Years does anyone here know of them ? I thought that was a great deal for the FICM considering what the dealer wants
Lubbockguy do you know of this company and can I trust there work? If I can for the price and guaranty I will send the pcm if I can trust them.

I have not personally dealt with them so I can't tell you either way. Their feed back is mostly good. The warranty if honored is pretty nice. I would rather find a ficm and have it tuned for milage or performance personally over going with a stock style flash....
Eric at innovatoive diesel has a custom file he uses, bill at power hungry performance has a tune based on the 03 tuning with a mix of the latest flash. I would probably go with power hungry performance
