I got a big problem.

well i took my truck for a swim in a canal the other day...

<a href="http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff234/HawgyStyle/?action=view&current=sunk5-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff234/HawgyStyle/sunk5-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

i fixed the engine already but im having problems with the tranny, i cant figure out how to drain all the fluid out of the system. And how many quarts of fluid should be in the system.

ive flushed 12 quarts today and its still coming out pink?

And another problem, i flooded my power-steering as well. where is the drain on that?

Hubs are O.K. i just put new grease in them and the seals are fine

To drain the steering system, just take the hoses off the gearbox and pump and tip the truck sideways to run it out...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

But seriously, I think the hoses are the closes thing to a drain on them.

Also, I'd like to let everyone who's seen what I can do to a vehicle know... I didn't do it this time.

All you can do on the C-6 is to drain the converter, the trans pan and the cooler in the radiator, I think it is about 13 qts of fluid for the C-6. Power steering you can probably take the hoses off the pump and trun the wheel side to side to push the fluid out of the steering box while the pump itself drains out.

Hate to say, but if your torque converter don't have a drain, its going to take alot more fluid to get rid of the pink juice. I sunk my 93 Explorer, filled the tranny up with water. Even with a power flush system, I could not get the tranny fluid clean(used up like 20 gallons!). As that's a woods truck now, I just drive it till it craps out. Should of not started the engine as that is what caused the tranny fluid and water to mix up inside the torque converter.

Anyway, plan on rebuilding err REPLACING as rust will start eating up the insides of your tranny

Absolutely worth looking. If you can drain it out properly now and save having iron-oxide-ATF stew somewhere down the road, it's always a good idea.

One thing I did do to help rid water out the tranny is drop the pan and let it sit a few days to drip drain. I used a few big cans of WD40 and hosed the valvebody and what ever areas I could get into to stop rusting. The biggest problem is the Torque converter, if you don't have a drain, its going to hold alot of water up against the outer area when the engine runs(centrfugal force) and it will make up another batch of strawberry drink for you.

If you do have a TC drain, and after dropping the pan getting new fluid and filter, DO get that tranny hot as it will help boil off the water left inside. I pulled the dipstick and you could see water vapor leaving! I also hooked up a shop vac to the vent hose and sucked alot of vapor out that way too just make sure the dip stick is not in so you won't suck in your seals.

well after 36 quarts of tranny fluid pumped through the system its all good now, we put conditioner into it and all. so the engine and tranny is fixed ,im onto the power-steering now. and the two lines that go into the gearbox are the ones i need to take off so that it will drain right?

thanks for all the help so far

Here is what i would do to flush the p/s system

remove return line at pump
disable engine so it will not start
put end of return line into 5 gal bucket
crank engine while someone else keeps fluid topped off, and makes sure excess spits into bucket. Do this until things come out clear.
