The lower shock mounts on my 77 F250 4WD are completely different side to side. Driver side is a big forging and the passenger side is a little stamped piece of sheet stock. Both are welded on. Is this the way they're supposed to be?
They are different mounts between passenger and driver side, i believe the drivers side mount is angled outward to clear the steering knuckle/drag link on right hand turns.
I went out this morning and took a look, the drivers side lower shock mount sets back from the axle tube about 2" further than the passenger side mount, when you take a look at it then it becomes obvious it's set back that way to clear the steering knuckle on right hand turns.
This change in angle of the shock combined with the shock mounting location changes tthe overall dampening from side to side, and this is one reason why the HB trucks ride a little funny.
The dampen a little different form side to side, and get worse after they have been lifted.
I figured I wouldn't start a new thread....here's my shock mount "breakage" below. Three pics, first two are the driver's side and third is the passenger's side (still intact).
Don't know how long it's been this way, probably since I got it in August and never noticed. Front driver's side lower shock mount. Somehow it's still seated--wow. I haven't done much more inspection than this but a pal and I are going to fix it soon.
Question: Should I a) fab something to patch it--doesn't have to look pretty, or b) cut off the old one, put a new one on, or c) cut it off and fabricate something? I guess it depends on skill, access to parts, etc. but any thoughts are welcome
