VIN number
also Ford never used a 351w in there trucks, and they never used 302w or 351w in 4x4 f-series not in till the 80s, also it could be a 351c or the mid to late 70s 351m/400, also if your reading my signature, my truck is custom built 4x4, i have a 302w and a built 80s AOD bolted to a NP205 transfer case,
here is a great source to help you id your truck, and there is lots of great info there, i wish my truck 73-79 had such a website
you can id your trucks year by the grille, you can find all that info on the site below, also post some pictures on here of your truck, and i see your new, so welcome to the site! i am sure the bumpside *67-72* guys will help you out as much as they can, generally i hang around the dentside *73-79* area on here, you can go over there too, since both gens are almost the same, also you should look for a user on here called NumberDummy, he knows it all, and has the years and experience as a Ford parts man back in the days of these trucks, and he has all the books, so he knows his stuff, if you just post a thread with NumberDummy help! in the title, generally he will come a running, so good luck and some pictures would be cool,
here is a thread i made on how to post pictures in case you don't know how,
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/78...-pictures.html
you can click the link in my signature and see my trucks video, also you should make a signature its easy enough in your user control panel,
hope my info helped,
-Brent

I assume the F250 4x4 had it in the same spot (minus the spring tower to help locate), but I don't have any hands on experience with that exact truck.
From the factory, there is also a tag attached to the firewall straight down from the right side windshield wiper pivot, and another attached to the left front lower support strut under the bed.
ID plates on firewalls and other locations are BUCK TAGS used by assembly line workers.
These tags may or may not have the VIN on them, and if they do...
Sometimes these so-called VIN's have 12 to 20 digits...not something to go by to get the correct info.
As original, the ELEVEN digit VIN is on the Warranty Plate, located and riveted on the left door face below the door latch.
However, if the left door has been changed, the VIN on the Warranty Plate prolly will not match the VIN on the registration.
As noted in the post above, the VIN is stamped on the top of the passenger side frame rail.
Ford assembly plants did not always stamp the VIN in the same location, so...it could be under the cab, or partially under the cab, or just in front of the cab.
It's also possblie to have the VIN stamped on the top of the drivers side frame rail, adjacent to the steering gearbox.
The "hidden" VIN was used by Ford Dealers, DMV's and Police to verify if the vehicle was titled correctly. In other words...not stolen.
The only V8 offered on 1968/76 F100/250 4WD's was the 360 2V which has 5 valve cover bolt holes per side.
The 4th digit of the VIN is the engine code:
1968/76 F100/250 4WD: A = 240 I-6 (1968/74) / B = 300 I-6 / Y = 360 2V.
