well i took the plunge and decided to get gauges and a dp tuner for my truck.
i ordered pyro, trans and boost, gauges they or isspro to match my ford color dash gauges with matching back lighting(light green).
the kit is from diesel manor and has all the needed parts and an instruction book for install.
i ordered an a piller pod or it came with the kit rather, i will need to paint it to match my grey int.
do you guys think that with this set up my truck will handle or be reliable with maybe 80 tow 80 econ 120 race and smoke for fun.
my truck is 2002 f250 4x4 fx4 with 119000 miles. 6637, 4" down pipe back flow pro and high flow muff.
i dont intend to stand in the peddle, but would likley play with the 120 race. i have a 20 foot low boy and a 30 hp international harvister tractor and brushhog, this will be the heavest thing i will likely ever pull.
i cant afford to smoke a trans or break much stuff, i think im fairly conservitive driver.
i guess my question is how bad will these tunes be for my truck or will they have a negitave effect on it..
after i get over the cost of gauges(360) i will save for the dp tuner.
thanks for all the good advice iv had here iv learned more already than i thought i could about deisel. and am trying to make good mods, thanks again.

Manual or auto tranny? If it's the auto I wouldn't mess with the 120 race. I was running a Superchips programmer at 60 tow, and fried my stock auto tranny. JMO,
Sounds good to me. Youve got great supporting mods and the gauges on the way. You will be in great shape for the DP tuner. Only thing I would do is go with the 60tow rather than the 80tow. Check the weight of those machines and match up with what DP has next to the tunes. I dont tow much at all anymore but went with the 60 just because it allowed me to tow a little heavier if I needed to.
Lots of folks are running similar to exactly the same setup as you and are going strong. Just make sure you change all your fluids and filters when needed and you will be fine!
Do your trans mods first, then get your tuner. If you want to save $$$, get the TransGo HD2 and mod your own. It'll cost you about $70, and your trans will love you for it. Then, you can get your tunes to match your mod'ed trans and you'll be in high cotton...
Where's Kountze, TX? You really should look into Tony Wildman's tunes -- he's here in TX and can tune a truck. I have his tunes and couldn't be happier...
EDIT: I see you're down near Beaumont. There are a BUNCH of good guys down that way that I'm sure could help you out. Look for the next SE TX/SW LA get together. I'm going to try & make it down there myself...
Best thing to do is when your ready for the DP, fill out the questionaire on their web-site, order what you want then Jody will call you and tell you whats good for you. I got my DP when I had the air intake, exhaust, ww, gauges with no trans mods and he said the 60T,80E,120R would be fine. I added the 140S because BDrummonds(Brandon) sugested it. I got my trans mods later. Congrats on the gauges, their nice and the install is a walk in the park, I got mine there..

What kind of effort is involved in doing this mod?
IZZY im about 30 miles north of beaumont. i actully work for goodyear in south beaumont.
yes the trans. is an auto and if i thought i would hurt it i would not buy a tuner i have the worst luck with stuff like that, if its going to happen to some one its me. do you guys think the 120 race is not safe for the auto. and will a trans mod help it out.( what is that mod ill do it).
lets say i only did 60 t 80 e will that give me better take off like from a stop or good pickup like getting on an on ramp.
honest to godness i dont know what id do if i hadent found this site. my wife might say save alot of money.lol
but thanks again

Don't lose any sleep over it, if it is going to go, its going to go. I have 140K on my early '99, and don't have any issues yet. I use the 120R and the 140A I am sure way more often than you will. I know that one day I will need to do the tranny, and I will make the trip to John Woods. But until then I am going to use the truck, take care of it, but use it. Just my .02
It's definately hard if not imposible to say if it will be or can be reliable. I have all those tunes and my truck shifts better with the tunes than without. It's imposible to know how a used truck will behave to new tunes though. I did know that my trans was on it's way out before the chip and it's still hanging in. Crossing my fingers that it holds out a bit more.

That because that superchips is a piece of crap. They are known to be hard on trannies.

im thinking 60t 80e 120r .
That sounds like a good start. I have had my DP for over 30K miles with 60T, 80"E", 120R, and 140AGG. For over 20K miles of that, I had the stock tranny, no issues. I now have a few more tunes than that, a BTS valvebody, and a NAPA trucool cooler and you can really tell a difference in the firmness of the shifting since the VB,and the tranny temps are much cooler with the tru-cool, and I beat on it pretty good when I want to, both now and prior to the VB and no issues. The 2 things I would recommend other than the eventual VB mod, is to go to NAPA and get an auxillary Tranny cooler (for around $95) and eventually switch to a synthetic tranny fluid (I went with schaeffers and love it).
It's my daily driver and I haul a pretty heavy steel and wood 2 horse slant with 2 big 1/4 horses a couple of times a month all spring and summer and it has held up fine.
HKusp on a side bar one of my buddys has a few hk's
i would love to have one.
last summer i bought a new colt 1911 45 model o. stainless. and i love it.
a few weeks latter bought my sons 2 ruger 22 bear cats. they or 9 and 12 and can go through some 22 rounds. its a good thing there cheep to shoot.
thanks clay, you will be where i get them from, i know after the gauges go in it wont be long before i find the tuner cash.lol.
i think your going to break me. i just saw a post with the intake piping you fabed up, and thats some good looking work, i wish my engine bay looked like that, but ive only had my truck about a month and a half. hopefully ill get there.
wish i would have called you about my gauges, it was an impulse buy from work. a public sorry .
but we will gwt together on the tuner
