I would set them upright to make draining water easier. I don't think a U in the pipe will allow all the possible water in the tanks to drain out.

should i use a glass bowl water seperater somewere in the line?

would that be good enough?

my thinking was If the compressor sat for a bit the water would drain into the U, then you can open the valve and blow the water out.

on the air output yes, but you really can't do to much about water that will collect in the tanks it self from condensation.

I don't quite follow? You will need a drain on the bottom of the tanks to drain water. Water that collects in the tank won't follow the air stream I think to well.

Thanks Ian, we will see how it comes together, I'm thinking that i will use only 1 tank.

The other would make a Awesome smoker!

You really do need to either mount the tank vertically or with the side nipple on the bottom so the moisture can drain. Otherwise, they'll gradually fill with water and you'll lose capacity, not to mention the increased risk of rust and failure.
