Air compressor question

Hello, I have access to 2 80 gal air tanks, i'm thinking of setting them up for air storage. my question is will this set up give me more CFM?
I will be using a 5.5 honda engine and a Emglo compressor head to fill them.

Thanks for any input.

The compressor is what determines the CFM, or cubic feet per minute. The tanks will give you more cubic feet, available at a given moment, but not "per minute."

So if i buy a new compressor head, A bigger V twin type, this will give me more CFM will fill the tanks faster, and air will last longer between cycles of the machine?

Looks good: Single stage twin cylinder pump.

* Air delivery: 18 CFM @ 40 PSI, 13.4 CFM @ 90 PSI
* Proven belt driven design for excellent compression and smooth running
* Two mufflers and two high efficiency intake filters
* Oil viewing window and drain plug
* Ball bearing check valve release
* Effective splash lubrication system keeps pump running cool
* Aluminum construction with cast-iron cylinder sleeve

Air delivery: 18 CFM @ 40 PSI, 13.4 CFM @ 90 PSI; Max. pressure: 140 PSI; Max. speed: 1200 RPM; Flywheel: 14-1/2'' with dual V-groove; Four 7/16" mounting holes (1/2" x 14 TPI)
Weight: 58.45 lbs.

They don't say how much horsepower you need to get the most out of it. (Probably six?)

The question is, what is your CFM requirement? What will you be running with it?

Bead blaster/sand blaster, air tools, paint pot, etc....

add says it runs on 5 hp.

my emglo pump is tired and wont keep up.

dont want to drop 1000 bucks for a whole new compressor either.

the honda starts first pull.

It should probably work just fine. With the sand blaster, you might have to pause and wait once in a while, but that should be OK. (When I'm sandblasting I want to pause periodically.)

Thanks for the input Bruce! sandblasting stuff is slowing me down

the pump on my compressor when new was 9.2 cfm @ 90psi
So i need something bigger now.

will let you know how it works when i get it together.

How do you plan to make it work with the gasoline engine? You'd need to somehow make the unloader of the current compressor work with the new compressor head.

Your gas compressor as it sits now, when the tank hits the correct pressure, a valve opens and the engine idles down, right?

I believe that mechanism is part of the compressor head itself?

No it is seprate from the compressor head mounted next to the tank, it has the small copper line on it going to the engine right?

Yes, if that whole mechanism is separate, then you should be good to go.

That's a breeze, just look at the fittings at your local real hardware store.
