Jucuzzi Air Compressor

I picked up a old jacuzzi air compressor and tank free and found out the motor is 3phase 347 volts. I swapped it for a 120volt motor and the compressor runs sweet. My question is I can't find a users manual on it. It has a turn **** on the top of the compressor that looks like a air adjustment valve of some sort.
When you push it down to turn the air stops coming out but I have no idea what it does when I turn it counter or clock wise.
the model number is 5B301-M40
If anybody has any idea how what his is for please let me Know.

If the **** is on the air output, it is likely your regulator valve that controls the actual pressure available at the hose port.

My guess would be a manual unloader. When you push it down or screw it in a pushrod holds the suction valve open and no air is produced. The compressor keeps turning but does not produce any air. Known as a suction unloading valve.

That sounds like it. When you push it in and turn it it only releases and pops back out, it doesn't screw in or out. No air is produced when it is pushed down. It could be used for start up.
Thanks
