Believe it or not, the V10 trans cooler is surprisingly bigger than the 7.3 trans cooler. I ran that for a little while before I was able to afford a 6.0 trans cooler. But there is no comparison between 6.0 trans cooler and V10 cooler; the 6.0 trans cooler is MUCH more superior.
but will a 6.0 cooler fit were a 6.8 cooler was meant to?
It seems to me I read on the Diesel Stop forum a couple of years back about Torque Shift trannies into 7.3L trucks. Of course I didn't mark it since my 05 already had a Torque Shift. Now I'm going to research putting a V-10 cooler on my F150.
i got my truck out on friday, they found the line that feeds fluid to the reverse gear was plugged.and locked it in place and tore upthe gearson the drum and other part that rides on the inside of it.the clutch packs still had abit of life left but not much.the rebuilt it and new torq.so i hope to get another 350,000klms out of this one.but i will be opening up the line and blow it out when i change fluids
Might want to condider running an inline filter like the 6.0L do if you aren't already. A friend on mine had the tranny rebuilt on his 01 and they installed the 6.0L cooler and an inline filter. So far it's working great.
Tranny #1 failed on the F250 at 83K miles
Going up a mountain at 125K miles the tranny overheated and took out the torque convertor, lost 9 quarts of fluid.
Tranny #2 failed on the F250 at 252K miles ($2K Ford rebuild).
At 55K miles I put in a Diablo sport chip and from that day the second gear shift change was very hard. Guess what gear failed? Yup, second! At 225K miles the PCM failed at which time a junk yard PCM was installed with an unknown program. From that day the overdrive shift change was hard. Guess what gear failed? Yup, O/D!
Prior to the second tranny failure the truck towed heavy weekly and never skipped a beat until one day the tranny got hot (250+). As of right now it's on it's third tranny and fourth torque convertor. Just yesterday the tranny got to 250 degrees but for only a short while. Luckily this one has a 3yr 100K mile warranty.
To look on the bright side the Excurison with 199,800 miles is on it's orginal tranny and torque convertor. The dually with 165K miles is also original but the torque convertor slips under big load at low speed. Just the other day put in a tow mode program in it and took it out the same day due to slipping really bad.
All three have aftermarket in line filters, one or two aftermarket coolers, syn, and pillar mounted tranny temp guages.

Chips and programmers are not good for the 4R100.
i was going to get a 5 star tune. will that hurt it if it is not to firm?it sounds like heat is what killed yours.

Absolutely!
These trucks are all the same and everything is universal between them. I've actually had all three trans coolers mounted on my truck, so that's a definite YES!
You'll have to modify the trans lines because the 6.0 trans cooler has bigger lines than our 4R100. It's nothing some adapters and 3/8s rubber trans lines won't fix. I got the adapter lines from True Value Hardware in their plumbing section. I'll take a pic later and post it in my gallery.
It depends on what chip or programmer you use and if you prep your trans for the added power. Prior to getting my SCT, I was looking real hard at a Diablo Predator and was advised NOT to get one (by two independent sources one user on this forum and a sponsor) due to it's programming for the trans.
My trans died in February of 2006 at 127K, all I had was an Aerotubrine muffler welded into the stock system and an AFE stage I; no trans mods whatsoever. After it was rebuilt, I added a sonnax tricumulator shift kit, a V10 trans cooler, and my SCT with at the firmest trans settings. The only difference right now is that I have a 6.0 trans cooler now, but it's make it 100K with out a problem, all it's ever needed was a flush every 30K.
Programming makes the biggest difference, some sit down and tune for it and others just slap something together hoping that it'll all just work. Custom tuners like Jody Tipton of DP-Tuner, Bill of Power Hungry Performance, Tony Wildman, and Matt of Spartan tuning take alot of pride in their work and make sure their programming won't hurt your engine or trans.

Heat is what killed his transmission, it's what kills any transmission.
5-star tuning is custom tuning and works worlds better than what comes straight out of any box. Give them a call, you won't regret it!
Climb under your truck and look for a sticker on the transmission housing. If it says "REMAN" (or maybe it's "REMANUFACTURED") on it you have had your tranny replaced (or rebuilt). Also, if it was done at a Ford dealership then it will be on the OASIS report for your VIN.
Bought my rig with 146K, tranny was rebuilt at 109K. I have 180K and no issues.
