I'll have to check for dusting. What goes into the 6637 mod, and whats the cost to convert to it? Is this one of those BIY things? If so, what do you need to build it?
cost = about $50. The 6637 doesn't muffle the sound of the turbine wheel as well but if you like the sound of your turbo then you'll love this mod!!!
K&N took a back seat to this mod!

Will the 6637 filter fit in there with the K&N heat shield still on or do I have to remove it?

It fits, but barely.

What did you guys do with the filter minder? For my K&N it just plugged into the end of the filter.

I chunked mine in the nearest dumpster. It isn't worth keeping IMHO. Just look at your filter when you open your hood. The 6637 seems to last about a year here, or a little more. I had about 15 months on mine, but it was pretty plugged up when I changed it. Have a look:

Throw it away or zip-tie it out of the way.

Heres what mine looks like installed, pretty much the same as everyone elses. one thing not mentioned is the intake air temp sensor has to be moved out of the way, but you might have already taken care of that when you put the K&N in.

I really love the sound of the turbo, the first time the wife was in the truck after i put it in we were getting up to bout 60 and at the end of the acceleration it "snezed" she was like "that sounds cool" to me thats a good compliment for my truck. (she never really gets excited about trucks)

So, when looking at a truck, dust in the intake = no go? Is there any acceptable dust?

Is there any way to tell if damage has been done or not?

Take the intake tube off and take a gander at the compressor wheel. If the turbo is dusted the edges of the fins will literally be sand blasted and chewed up. Someone should be able to post up pics of what a dusted turbo looks like.
