So the only casualty would be the compressor wheel? I was under the impression that the engine could be toast because of dust. Is this "wicked wheel" a new compressor wheel? If so, it would seem to reason that putting that in would fix the dusted turbo. No?
Well page three of the story is... dirt past the filter pretty much will wear any surface that is lubricated with the engine oil. First you have air born sand paper (aka dust, dirt, etc.) makes it's way into the combustion chamber, gives you a good sanding in there, then some blows by, finding a new home in your oil pan. (you can verify this with an oil sample, your silicates will be off the charts) Then between your LPOP and HPOP, they'll ensure no part of you $$$$ engine misses out on the party! Some parts will fail sooner under these conditions and are typically valve guides and seats, but your scrubbing the life off other even more expensive parts too. (HPOP-starts engine with UNFILTERED oil, mains, rod bearings, etc... and on)
So if your compressor wheel looks like it's been ground down, that is probably what the INSIDE of your engine looks like too.
first i would like to say thanks for all the great info.. i just trader for a 2000 7.3 crewcab 4x4 and i am looking to do some mods but i have a few questions do you take the whole air box out or just the top and if you take the whole box out what do yall do with the sensor from bottom of the air box. i seen where one feller put it in the end of the filter but i know that not all are doing this because i seen where another feller put the filter change gauge in the end of the filter. i stopped by and ordered a filter for my truck but i still need to find a cover.i still have more questions but ill stop there for now...
thanks
joe don
You can just zip tie those sensors out of the way. And yes, take the whole airbox out of there, you won't be needing it anymore. I'm sure if you talk to Clay with Riff Raff Diesel he can help you out with getting a 6637 filter cover.
EDIT: Clay beat me too it. BTW, that is the Clay you need to talk to!
Dang clay, nice job man! We ALL greatly appreciate your work, your efforts and everything you do for people! Keep up the great work and keep in mind that when ever I need something I'm coming you YOU first!
just know noticed that riffraff sent me a link with instructions... thanks that explains alot to me. cant wait to get it going... and i was going to ask yall about the edge evolution chip. it says it displays all the important stuff that i would want to display with the pillar gauges what do yall think???
