as far as i can tell they have taken down the 35 camera, i think that one store shows sold out, i have not been able to find them for less that 73
so if someone bought them and wants to sell them i want 2
Picked up one of these cameras today at Torrance CA SamsClub. $60 which is not the greatest price, but better than the original pricing of $80. Trying to decide where to install the monitor.
Other than what people have already posted, where else have folks mounted their cameras???
here are my ideas
1 Tranny tunnel
2 Recessed into driver Visor, remove vanity mirror and replace with monitor
3 Front of center console
4 Just left of the 12V accessory plug. removing metal mounting bracket and just mounting plastic bracket to the panel
Other ideas?? (overhead console area is out due to quad gauges mounted there and wide angle mirror for watching the kiddos
sorry i didnt see the other user asking about cameras..
heres where mines installed, but its now useless because the camera is full of water again but i hardwired the screen so there is nolonger the cig lighter plug.
Got mine in over the weekend - thanks again, Sheriff! Hope to pick up the truck on Wednesday if all goes well and then I'll be able to start all of my install work! Sure will be nice to have the bigger screen to replace the 2.5" I've had in the Expy the last few years! Rep points given for being so willing to help out the team here!
Well I got the camera installed so I thought I would reciprocate with some pics of my own. I decided to do the camera install a bit different so the image is more like what the camera on my RV shows.
In the following pic you will see the actual view. you can see the end of my trailer hitch tow loop and the corners of the bumper are also visible with the style of camera placement.
I also hardwired the plug. Decided on the placement as it is the most shaded and will give a nice clear view while being out of the way
I will fill the space around the camera with some black silicone. I am on vacation at my mother-in-law's so was a bit limited on tools that i had to do the install
Cool location DJ - similar view as what that 3rd brake light would offer at a MUCH better price. Instead of just silicone - you may try a black plastic grommet. The Home Depot near me has a pretty good selection of solid ones which could be drilled out and also molded to fit that curve. Cut the hole to match the camera lens and then fill in as needed. How hard was it to get the camera mounted in side the handle?
Did a quick search and found a picture of what I'm talking about:
Find one that is the right outside diameter to fit the handle hole and then drill out the inside hole to match the camera. Either way (silicone or other method) - post that completed picture.
Grommet would not fit as the inside of the camera already sits flush to the trim piece... Just used some epoxy putty to mount camera in place. the hole is a oval shape not round. trim is held in place by 6 nuts and you have to disconnect lock and latch point to remove the trim. easy to make the hole after that. If I was at home and had my die grinder it would be a perfect fit It will look good once I get the silicone in and smooth it into place.
I considered mounting it in the 3rd brake light but a quick test revealed that the curvature of the rear hatch would not allow the camera to see the bumper or trailer hitch...
Oh for reference, each of the red lines on the screen is about 6 inches. the broom handle in the pic is about 2 feet rear of the bumper
for those that are saying they have water issues...1st obviously..there is a warrenty..and 2nd, how are they mounted?
and cracks in housing or anything like that?
I just held a stream of water directly on the lens of one of the ones I have for several minutes and no issues..hmmm
I think that the water in one or two of these may have just been a fluke defect. I soaked the daylight out of mine washing my truck the past few times and it's bone dry...
