Seat Belt Webbing Replace?

Has anyone replaced the webbing in a retractable seat belt for a 79 F100 or is it better to find a junker and relace the whole deal?

Seat belts are pretty easy to find in junk yards, from my experience. That is an inexpensive option. That's my 2 cents. It seems like a while back this topic came up, and someone posted a link to a company that restores seat belts to factory condition. However, I can't remember which section it was in, and I can't seem to get the search function to cooperate. Maybe someone else remembers the name?

i read somewhere awhile back that seatbelts have a shelf life for lack of a better term and that they should be replaced like, every 30yrs or so because the webbing weakens over time. this being what is going to save you in an accident, i wouldn't get a set of junkyard belts because you dont know the life theyve had. i just got a set at napa. they dont retract, but theyre new and they work. i'd like to eventually get a 5point harness and a cage,

That's an OSHA standard for heavy equipment, usually 6 years for standard excavation and 3 years for gravel pits/ oil field work.

However, there are a couple junkyards near me that WILL NOT sell seatbelts, and you'll find many of the cars and trucks in the yard with the belts cut in half. I am sure they use the reasoning like you suggest. But there are several dozen more that will sell seat belts all day long.

I'll add that the junkyards that avoid selling seat belts also do not do very well for buisiness compared to the pick-a-parts around me.

I have a 77 who's belts were sun baked and hard, couldn't find direct replacements in LMC or NPD so I took one out and went to my local u-pul-it and found the exact ones in a 89 Ranger the only difference was the hard plastic sheath at the base was higher than original. That was an easy fix by pulling the staples out moving it down and re stapling. I guess the basic idea is if i found ones for my 77 in a 89 there must be tuns of them out there, happy hunting. And know that you will find every other interior color other than yours first.

I found one on a truck today, part no. D7TB-10612A86-AA, it has no fraying and is in excellent condition. For a left side belt in this condition, it appears this guy never wore his belt. I got it from Pic-a-Part for $7.33 .

When I got my truck in 1993 I had to INSTALL belts. The original owner (I am the second owner) took them out because he never wore them and didn't like them rattling around or stuffed in the cusion. The farmer only used the truck to check his irrigation ditches so he was constantly getting in and out of the truck.
