89BII. At the first stop..forward or reverse..I hear a clunk. For example, after the first stop when moving forward, it clunks. If I continue to go forward it will not clunk when I stop. If I backup, the first stop I make it will clunk. If I were to continue to go in reverse and apply the brakes it won't clunk again....until I go forward. On a side note I have replaced upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearings, rotors, brakes, and radius control arm bushings. Everything underneath seems to be tight. It sounds like the brake shoes are following the rotation of the wheels when I hit the brakes, but it just seems louder than that noise. I am kind of familiar with that moving brake pad noise. Any ideas out there? Thanks
Check u-joints, suspension mounts, TTB pivot bushings/bolts, everything. Your having replaced ball joints kind of leaves them out of the probable cause, but it doesn't leave the rest of the front suspension points out of it.

I inspected the driveline, and everthing seems tight. It is the original driveline. Maybe I should clarify; the noise only happens when I apply the brakes, and then only one time. For example, if I back out of the garage, and apply the brakes, it clunks. When I go forward and stop at the intersection it clunks. Then it doesn't clunk anymore as long as I stop when I am going forward. If I were to back up, and apply the brakes, it would clunk again. If I keep backing up and applying the brakes there is no more clunk. When I go forward it will clunk again when I apply the brakes. One time in either direction. Thanks...

Broken motor mount?..........Had A Mustang with broken drivers side motor mount, every gear change (fwd to rev) clunk, clunk on acceleration............Just a thought.
That is a brake noise from what you are describing. A driveline will not make the noises you explained, it will clunk again every time you start and stop. If it were front suspension parts it would be repetitive; ball joints, control arm bushing, radius arm bushing. Every time your ride moves up and down due to stopping and starting the clunk would announce itself over and over again. I would suggest removing the drums and reinspecting the shoes, pins, and all springs. Also see if you can isolate the noise, find what area exactly it's coming from. That's what friends are for. Good luck on your clunk hunting.
