engaging 4 low - makes a loud clunk

engaging 4 low - makes a loud clunk

when engageing 4 wheel drive, 4 high has no problem and makes no noise and does engage. when going to 4 low, their is a loud grinding clunk, and then it engages. What does this grinding clunk indicate?

the clunk is more than likely normal, 4-wheel drive is suppose to make a noise when it is engaged...that is what I read

I would consider that normal for my '92.

this clunk is the transfer case shifting into low range. this i normal nothing changed when you shift to 4hi just power is sent to the clectronic clutch in the transfer case
