i just purchased a 93 f150 xlt 2wd when checking the fluids i noticed tranny fluid seems to be burnt. a friend said that i shouldnt change due to it being used to running that way and if i did change that tranny would soon die. has anyone heard of this practice or is this just hog wash? thanks Don
There is a reason for this old wive's tale. Many people ignore their transmission until they have problems. Then they notice the fluid is bad and chenge it, but the damage was already done. Changing the fluid on a transmission that is already hurt isn't going to help it any.
If your is running well I'd change the fluid right away. There is a procedure in the articles section of this site that explains how to change all the fluid.
