So I haven't been around a lot lately as I have been working a lot but with all the extra overtime $$ I bought me some toys last weekend! Been wanting to get into handguns for about a year now and finally took the plunge! So I went to a few guns shops and found these two.
The top one is a Hi Point JHP .45 ACP and the bottom is a S&W .22LR target pistol. Both are good fun to shoot! The Hi Point unfortunately is the Drab Green model and I HATE the green and black swirl grips so I performed my first mod on it! I rubberized the grips with Plasti-dip spray on rubber. Turned out very nice and very comfy
I have put 100 rounds though the .45 no issues and about 300 rounds through the .22 with just a few no feeds. Seems to be a break in issue though as those were in the first 150 rounds. Both a pretty accurate so far even in my inexperienced hands. I want to shoot the .45 more but finding ammo is not easy and at $.40 a round I cringe when I pull the trigger! But I bought 200 more rounds yesterday so I should get some time this week.
So now its your turn. Lets see your handguns! Also anybody here Concealed Carry? If so what do you carry and where do you keep it on your person. I am planning to take the class and get set up but not sure I will carry very often. Also need a smaller frame gun than these to carry! I am a big guy but I am not sure I can hide the full frame .45!
You wouldn't want to see my old relics, a couple hand guns that were my dads. I went target shooting for the first time (and only) ever last summer with my father-in-law and his 9mm Browning and a .357. Lots of fun and he said I did really good. I'd love to shoot some more, just haven't found the time. Love to put a pistol range in my yard somewhere, but I'd have to get the wife really drunk first before she'd agree to that.
I carry concealed and have for several years. I carry either a .45 colt 1911, a 9mm 92f beretta, or a .40 smith and wesson. The reason for the various calibers is I do occasional bounty hunting work with som friends and as former Marine w/ understanding of penetration vs. power vs range/ I choose depending on the environment we will most likely be operating in. I carry in the small of my back for my concealed as I carry concealed most of the time and openly while conducting operations usually on a tactical hip mount. I usually will carry both in that case though as the concealed is my back up. For .45 target ammo look into Wolf brand ammo its cheap but very dirty russian made w/ steel casings so you really need to clean it after you fire it but again for practice its cheap enough to fire lots of it. Just dont like it for protection use. I depending on the weapon use a holster in the small of my back but w/ large frames usually dont, as long as your wearing a belt, they usually will carry very comfortably and still conceal well. The only give away is after carrying something as long as the beretta for a while it will dig a hole throught the back of your jeans from the muzzle when your sitting in your truck or otherwise.
I have a Springfield XD-40. I carry this in a CrossBreed Supertuck holster on my side. Get a good gun belt and it will help with concealed carry. Regular belts tend to sag from the weight of the gun.

I conceal carry too. I'm a small guy though, 155 pounds. The only place I can conceal it to not be seen is in the front of my pants with an in the pants holster. I sold all my semi autos, glock .45, glock .40, taurus 9mm, ruger .45, cause money was short. Now I carry a Ruger police service six .357mag. Hopefully soon I will have a Kimber.
funny TJ, we must have been thinking the same thing! i been gun shopping too!
i just recently bought me a Walther P99 .40 auto with 1,000 rounds of ammo for $550. only had 150ish rounds fired through it prior to my purchasing it.
also this past week i got a Smith and Wesson 357 model 686 from the same guy
Are any of you finding it hard to find ammo, of any kind? In Oregon it is scarce as hens teeth.
One of the discount stores told me that they receive their shipments on Tuesday and within a couple, three hours it's gone. It's all part of the Obama scare.
Nice weapons guys. TJ, is the slide on the JHP aluminum, steel, composite, ???
TJ those hipoints are a good outfit for the money!
For $170 out the door I am happy with it so far. Many talk down to them but for what I will be doing with it, it shots straight and feeds well.

Rog
The slide is metal. Not steel but not aluminum either. I forget what they call it. Its heavy though but it does have a polymer frame.
Ammo has been hard to find. Bought 100 rounds of .45 when I bought the gun. I searched locally nothing, went north 30 minutes, nothing, so I went back the gun shop 45 minutes south where I bought the gun and bought another 200 rounds this weekend. I am looking into reloading. Gotta do some research but I am very much a DIY guy so why not reload too.
Reloading is the way to go. I have hoarding ammo for years. I still have about 1500 rounds of 7.62x39 and .223 I wouldn't trust a low point with my life, but they seem to be reliable.
