I don't even try to conceal this one.
It's a totally custom 1911 that I built up myself for ranch duty and protecting my shop and home.
Good luck to anyone trying to find a new pistol right now at a fair price. I call my wholesalers nearly every day and not much is in stock at all anymore unless you like pink guns, kids guns or really cheap guns. I just closed up till the manufacturers catch up.

Nice lookin rig ther RRanch !! Is that a Rock Island frame? looks kinda like mine... Nice thing about the 1911 is the parts practically fall right in as long as it's a GI model, those looking to build there own should check out Sarco.com's web site or the Shot Gun News paper, you can still own/build one for around 350 or so.... New Rock Islands go for around $400

It's an Essex frame and slide with a clark match barrel in it. Most of the parts are Wilson combat except for the grip safety. I couldn't find one I liked so I just made that part myself. My son made the grips for me last summer. He's only 15 but sure did a good job. He's got jigs set up now to whip them out a lot faster and even nicer than mine.
It cost me a good bit more than a rock island to build but it was well worth it. The rock island pistols are just fine in my experience for a build up gun too. They are made in the PI and much much better than chinese made junk. None of them are available right now either hardly. If they were I'd be ordering some.
The Holster was custom made for me by a good friend of mine named Rudy who ownes Black hills leather down in El Paso. He does truly awsome work. It's got a 2 mag holder on the other side and matches my saddle pretty well. That was my biggest wish when I asked him to make it for me since I spend so much time in the saddle.
Oh, the 21 Years old to own or purchase a handgun is federal law. If you are under 21 anywhere in the country then you are not allowed to buy either handguns nor the ammo for them.

You only have to be 21 to buy from a federally licensed dealer, private sales between individuals are legal at the age of 18. My son has been openly carrying and buying ammo since his 18th birthday.

2 stroke, walk away from the smith m&p. my buddy has that exact gun, its horrible. the worse part is the dam trigger. its around 13-14 pound pull. of the choices you gave i would get the xdm, but i would reccomend comparing the xdm to the standard xd. the main difference is the grips as far as the normal shooter would notice anyway. i personaly liek the feel of the xd better then the xdm but you may be the opposite. also, why the 40 cal? you will liek the 45 alot better!

Blue mule, If you son gets caught with a pistol and is not under your direct supervision or another responsible adult he will never be able to own one legally again. That law isn't just for buying from a dealer. It's to prevent kids from having handguns no matter where they get it from. Also if an adult is caught selling a handgun privately to a minor that is against the law. In your own house, in most states, you have the right to teach your kids about guns and all that and I wish people would dod it a lot more but noone in this country under 21 can legally own a handgun.
