Whats the difference between the 15 and the 17 pump, new to the site and learning a whole lot of useful info. truck is totally stock so i've gotta lot of work to do, this is my first super duty, got a 94 psd and just sold my 97 so now im learning all there is to learn, the pre99 trucks were not as talked about when i was in the know. thanks for all the help guys
The 15* pump came on the early 99 trucks. The later trucks all have a 17* pump. The degree is the angle of the swash plate and determines the flow capacity of the pump, ie, a 17* pump "should" flow more oil to the injectors, hence holding better pressure at WOT or towing. These pumps rarely go completely bad, but do get weak over time. I changed my 15* to a 17* and it made a huge difference in how my truck runs, but then again, my 15* pump was very tired. I went from only holding 1600 PSI to holding 2800PSI in the same conditions. Now there are other options out there than stock reman pumps. Our world is getting better every day.
Sounds simple, makes sense, got the 4 inch turbo back system on it last summer, i know i said it was complety stock, for some reason i forgot about that little mod(duhhhhh) gonna do my 6637 mod this weekend hopefully on both trucks. im a little ways away from any hpop mods i think, still workin on a tuner or chip. Some friends have the dp tuner and love it. gonna go that route i think, but baby steps are in order... cant wait to really start playin with this truck, bought it a year ago, ony put 5k miles on it, my company truck is an 05 cc sb with the pos 6.0, love the truck just dont like the 6.0L, but its what the boss gave me, and i dont pay for it or put fuel in it so its not a concern, my 7.3's rock, this 02 is my third 7.3L, sold the 97, its hard to believe how much things have changed since i was up on all this, i remember when the fuel pressure mod was the greatest thing since canned beer, and a 75hp hypermax max chip was the best thing on the market... My head is spinning with all the things i can do to these trucks..
But I think all my problems are PCM related now. I cant get AE to read on my truck, just wont connect. So we threw in my buddys spare PCM that DP reflashed and added a 40HP chip. Only difference is this PCM is for an auto and I have a manual. Well still wont read but truck runs amazing, idles higher and smoother, doesnt run as rich. Cant wait til Jody reflashes mine and adds a chip, I really need to get the one for a manual back in it.
