Motorcycle cops.....
And still this 'majority are good' argument is not my experiance, or maybe it just doesn't fit my high standards for good justice.
Please realise that in both of the bad stories I've told, not one officer was willing to help, nor stop what was happening. This is just as true in the first story of the deputy who threatend me. I talked to alot of people that I thought should help me, but none did, even the few that believed me did nothing. As it is in my false arrest story, there were maybe 30 officers there on scene, not one said "what are we doing" "why are we arresting this man" Again, even the ones that clearly thought so, I had been quite civil and coopertive, and the one guy that asked to see my permit clearly thought my arrest was wrong, but said nothing, and was in fact my arresting officer, he booked and printed me.
This falsehood of justice by ommision, timidness, and silence is just as bad, if not worse for they know better, and in my opinion these are "bad apples". These timid men do not serve the good for either of us. A good cop needs to not only uphold the law on his own, but also uphold justice, and truth all around. In our great Republic it is the responsability of ALL citizens to always stand for what is right, true, and just. Opinions on what is right, true, and just will vary, that is why we have a freedom of speach and due proccess. But amung the police these responsibilities are much enhanced, and must be demanded of them by the public and themselves. This is the major responsability of there/your position and power, not safety or even the law, but truth, for without truth all else will fail.
Perhaps what is most apropriate here is a well known line from Leo Tolstoy's great work War and Peace;
"All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"
If I can get to a point where I believe these high standards are the norm, and expected of by most of the force and all of the leadership. I will go a full 180 on my position and ask for more police powers and money, and I will join the force. Yes I said I will join the force, I have thought often of joining the police, I think I would be very good cop and enjoy it. But if I am to be expected to act like and tolerate both the actions and inactions of the police I have experianced, I would quickly find myself in alot of trouble, for I cannot watch injustice any more then I can participate in it, for both are the same for me.
I knew eventually one of you mental midgets would get around to bringing up the screen name.
.
A while back I was in a department store trying to return a defective product. In my attempt to do so the person I was dealing with got a little mad at me and raised her voice.
What about this am I not supposed to hate?[QUOTE]
Maybe you could hate yourself for not having the people skills to interact effectively with others. You walk around with a gun on your belt and yet you can't return a product without escalating the situation. It cost you thousands of dollars and days of freedom. I guess you showed that dumb broad!!!
Maybe you could just possibly entertain the notion that the whole world is not out of step except for you.
In my 58 years; I've dealt with people a lot smarter than me and people mentally inferior to me. I gave them all the same respect and surprise,,,,surprise: I got respect back.
I've had my share of speeding tickets, nowhere near what I deserve, so I pay them and consider it the price to pay for my driving habits.
I understand that being a good peace officer at times can be like holding back the tide with a mop. And I respect the good men that decide to take on the job.
And I always am well, not totally cooperative but am nice in dealing with the police. This is largely out of self intrest it does nobody any good for me to sport an argumentative attitude with police, but it is usually not in my intrest to be totally cooperative. I practice my right to remain silent.
JeffMc202, Thanks for joining in, I like what you had to say.

You having said that is all i needed to be satisfied that you are not a complete dick to those who protect you and me. Thank you

Your welcome it's just that I think their too rare. But those that are deserve as much respect and support as we can manage.
All in the name of good debate...cleanliness, civility...you know
. Oh, and by the way...love the line in your sig. You do know why they are tapered on the end don't you?
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Yes Dan, like the sig, if nobody else will ask I will.
John, why are they tappered?
And on another lighter note, I've always wondered if officers like yourselves like movies like Super Troopers?
It's so your bunghole doesn't slam shut...
Boy, did this thread just go into the toilet or what!?
Yeah, I loved Super Troopers and Reno 911 is a hoot. Like was said above, you've got to be able to laugh at yourself and the profession or you'd go nuts otherwise.
Right now I'm finding it funny that I'm typing this while my neighbor sells dope.
And I will throw out there that for all I know, I am a fan of sheriff Joe Arpaio. All these racist attacks on him serve nobody but the racist groups that are attacking him.
I'm suprised I didn't get any comments on my joining the police.
Officer: "We found this bag of crack in your pants pocket".
Suspect:"That aint mine!"
Officer: "It was in YOUR pants pocket"
Suspect:" These aint my pants!, I just bought em at the thrift store!..How was I supposed to know there was crack in the pockets!"
Officer:"You have the right to remain silent..........."
