HELP, hood stuck down!!

I put my hood down and it made it just pass the saftey lock position. Its in the position where its not locked all the way down so I pulled on the lever in the grill and it would hardly move at all. I pulled the hood lock lever in the cab and it pulled out freely, didn't have the usual hard catch, then release. I tried levers, bars and long screw drivers with no luck. Tomorrow I'll take off my cattle guard or what ever you call it so I can get a better angle on the locking mechanism. Right now I have no idea of why its locked in the 'half way position'. I would hate to resort to a cutting torch, lol. Any idea's would be appreciated.

P.S. I don't think I left any tools, etc. under the hood that would jam it up. I also can't swear to it either. I've lost tools before!!

you probably bumped the latch while working on it... done it A LOT of times! haha. i can pull the lever in the grille hard enough to get the hood up. once you get the hood up go and pull the hood release in the cab before you close it. you will hear it click then you will be good to go

I know why.....................
You somehow managed to "lock" the hood before you closed it. Once the catch flips over it prevents the hood from closing all ther way, but it does close enough to keep tension on the safety catch to make it hard to release.

I've dont the same thing.......twice
The 1st time I spent probably an hour with wrenches, sockets screwdrivers and prybars trying to get it open. I still don't know how I opened it except that I just kept screwing with it. enough to get the latch loose enough so that it would open

2nd time was easy.If you apply enough pressure to the hood directly over the latch it will relieve the tension on the safety so that you can open it.

Thanks you two, I bet that's what I did. I even sat on the hood and tried to pull the latch, no luck. The angle is horrible because of the cattle guard. After I take that off tomorrow I'll have a better shot at it, I'll put my wife up on the front of the hood while I pull, lol. There is another problem though, when I installed the IC the clearance was tight on the lever so I had to bend it up and out a little. I hope that doesn't mess with me tomorrow. Thanks, Glenn

I didn't even see your post before my reply, sorry. If I can reach the cable on the backside of the latch, then you lost me. Push the cable, the latch, both? To the right though, got that part. Thanks, Glenn

A flash light .1/4 drive (long) extension ,& an 8mm socket .

loosen the bolts holding the latch,or remove them completely if need be...

You may have to push the grill down a little(or wedge something soft, like paint sticks between the hood & the grill) to get the socket on the bolts

Rick, Thanks, my hood is now open!! I tried all of the above and after seeing the bolts, that's what worked. I had to remove then all the way, must have been jamed pretty good. Thanks again

While the latch is out...

Spray it with some degreaser, get all the gunk off, and lube the pivot points. I managed to "lock" mine halfway down AND have the latch stick from gunk and corrosion.

I have gotten in the habit of pulling on the cab release before closing the hood, if I've been working around the latch mechanism.
