transmission cable adjustment

Can anyone tell / show me what the lock tab looks like in step 4 below? I've been looking at the manual and the illustration leaves a lot to be desired since looking at the actual piece under the truck I don't see anything that looks like it could be pried down with out breaking the locking piece nor would anything move solely by hand pressure. for 93 F-250 5.8 E4OD.

Below posted by PLC7.3 (I have identical in shop manual)
Automatic Transmission Shift Rod or Shift Cable Adjustment... C6 and E4OD

1 Raise vehicle on jack stands or hoist. (I'd block well and scramble under)

2 From inside the vehicle, place the select lever in D/C6 and OD/E4OD . Hang a three pound weight on the selector lever ( six pack still full)

3 Remove shift cable from the transmission lever ball stud/shift rod.

4 Pull down the lock tab on the shift cable body.

5 Position transmission lever in drive position. This is three detents from the front-most lever position with the first position counting as one.

6 Connect the cable and end fitting to the transmission lever ball stud/shift rod.

7 Push up on the lock tab to lock the cable in the correctly adjusted position or tighten nut

and bolt.

8 Remove jack stands and lower vehicle from hoist. Remove three pound weight from column shift select lever.

9 After making adjustment, check for Park engagment. Check the transmission control lever in all detent positions with the engine running to make sure correct detent/transmission actions, readjust if necessary. Reset the PRNDL indicator as required.

CAUTION:
Under no circumstances will it be permissible to adjust the cable/shift rod in any position

other than D for C6 or OD for E4OD.

Now all should be ok if it is in PARK and everything works, remove blocks.

Glad you got it. I really like the "six pack" hanging on the shift lever. Ingenious.

I've been trying to follow this same procedure. Is the lock tab on the tranny or cabin side of the cable?

It has been a while since I was under there, lock is down near the transmission and as best as I recall the lock tab is on the cabin side of the support bracket. If you have trouble getting the lock tab to move, it is shaped roughly like a 'U', put something flat on top and pull down on it. You would then be pushing down on the top two legs of the 'U'. I used a slot screw driver and it popped right down. I had been prying on the bottom of the U lock tab and it was bending so far I was sure it would break if I went any further.

good luck!
