lol, well i got somemore numbers i just drove it to town and back, running 55 i got 400 egt, i have no idea if its right, but the guy i got it from tested it, and said it was only off by 30-40 degrees
Thats not too bad, I would consider that fairly close. If I limit my cruise speed to 50-55 MPH I will see numbers that low.
What also matters is how long the hills are. Just a brief sprint up a 300 foot hill might not be enough to ramp up the EGTs, but a hill thats 1/2 mile or more should be enough to see some heat.
it was a good mile or 2, 7% grade i put it on the floor at the bottom, in fouth gear, egts went to 650 started to loose rpm's so i gave it 3rd and put it back on the floor, to see if i could get it real hot, well it may have pushed a little over 650, but i was more conserned on staying in the road rather than looking real close at the gauge
lol, i would actually love to find an old really beet up truck with a very very wore out motor, crank the ip all the way up take the hood off and the air cleaner off that way it gets maximum air, and run the exaust out the side and turn the rev limiter up to like 4500 and just see how long it lasted i think it would be fun, but i have been told i was crazy before

my girlfriends dad bought several pyrometers in an auction, idk where or how but he had alot, so he gave me one that he had left over and told me NOT to cut the wires that go from the prob to the gauge. he said he said he did this and it showed the EGT temp as a lot less than it really was. so maybe that is why some of you are experiencing this problem?
with mine, ive got to watch the pyro like a hawk, but unloaded and in 3rd gear ive noticed that i cant get the EGTs over 900*F.
