I picked up a used Warn M12000 last week. For those of you with winches on your PSD, how do you have them wired? My dad used to add a dedicated deep cycle battery and an isolator for winch power on his rigs. I'm worried that if I don't do this I could drag the batteries down too far and cause the ECU trouble.
Maybe your Dad only had one battery to start with but because you have two I don't see any reason to isolate one of them unless you're using it full time..like for logging or if you're always gettin stuck even then the alternator should keep them charged IMO.
These were older gas rigs with only one battery, the second and isolator were added so that you don't pull the main battery down. I was asking if anyone is adding a 3rd battery to their PSD to run their winch. The few folks I've talked to so far have wired straight to one of the existing batteries with no troubles.
Not sure yet, need to take some measurments and do some head scratching first. I wanted to hide it between the frame rails behind the bumper but there's not enough room unless I shim it forward. IC is in the way.
I have a 12000# mile marker. I use it occasionally and have never had a problem. no dimming lights or anything. I would not waste the time to add a third battery.
