Anybody ever replace door hinges on these trucks? Looking for tips and maybe where to buy parts. I did a search and found nothing on the site.
Thanks in advance.
i just did mine a few weeks ago. i found it easiest to take the door off without the hinges . first i marked my doors around the hinge so i could line them up better. two seconds with a plasma cutter took care of the hinge pin. funny it was totally loose but wouldn't come out. drilled for the new bushings and put back together. took about 25 minutes all together. got the hinge pin kit at advance auto parts for about 6 bucks in the help section.
make sure the first time you close the door afterwards do it slowly in case it doesn't line up correctly you won't risk screwing up your paint or wrinkling the door by slamming.
i'm sorry. for some reason i read hinge and thought hinge pin. if your door is just sagging you can redo the pins. if your hinges themselves are shot, check ebay, lmc, and then the stealership if needed. lmc has become my new favorite catalog. they have all kinds of great parts for our trucks but they aren't cheap.
thanks for the quick replies! Yeah, the pin seems to be fine, but the part of the hinge that is bolted to the door is very egged out from the pin and the door is sagging! I didnt think I would need a plasma cutter though! I will look up the parts and get to work on figuring out how to remove the pin.
the hinge egging around the pin is common. when you buy the kit you get a pin, 2 new larger bearings, and a c clip for the bottom of the new pin. you have to drill the egged holes larger to accept the new bushings for the new pin. i just used the cutter since it zipped right through the pin. the hinge is so close to the pin you can't really get a wheel on the pin to cut it and a sawzall blade just whacks all over the hinge itself. a plasma cutter works best i think. acetylene torch may work too but you need to pull the pin halves out quickly cause if there is slag after the cut it will harden and you won't get the halves out.
You can use a die grinder (a small angled one works best) and a ball carbide bur (see pic) to grind off the flange on the bottom of the factory pin so that you can drive it out with a long shank drift pin.

thats what I was thinking too, I've used them from time to time at work, make sure you wear saftey glasses because you will get little pieces of metal flying everywhere.
The bits are pretty inexpensive and good choice if you do not have access to a plasma or oxy/ace torches.
