Battery conections !!

I'm trying to conect a couple of 1/0 wires for my winch to my Battery. There's no real good simple way to conect them to the stock battery. Does anyone have any ideas ?? I have a 9000lb warn winch that I can put on front or back. I've got all my wiring ran but need to figure out how I can connect it.. I could replace the battery to a duel post ?? That's the only thing I can think of at the moment !! What do you guys think ???

They sell different terminals that you can put two heavy gauge wires in. I'd check out an electronics store first like Circuit City or Best Buys. Believe or not some of these guys run that gauge cable to their amplifiers!

I run deep cycle marine batteries in mine. The dual battery connections are handy for big demand electrical items. Mine has a snow plow and dump bed on it. Also the deep cycle batteries do not cook when you use more electricity than the alternator is supplying on a regular basis.

i am going to hook a winch to my truck too, with an ex cab long box, will the 1/0 gauge wire supply enough juice running all the way to the back of the truck? also, does it matter which battery i run lines from?

I've got a crew cab short box and on my old truck that wasn't much short I never had a problem with the 1/0. It never has heated up on me, so I think you will be safe.. You could go one size bigger if you want.. I'm using 1/0 welding cable because it's still quite flexible to route through the truck.. It seems to be big enough.... I guess it will depend how stuck you plan on getting or how many dodges you have to pull out on a regular basis... hahaha

hey russb, i found some welding cable today but it is 2/0 guage. do you think that will be thick enough? it looked like it must have been at least 5/8" thick.

/0 guages are the reverse of normal. The bigger the number the bigger the wire. So you should be good as 2/0 is bigger than 1/0.

kwik, so with the 2/0 being bigger, do you think i can go from the front of my truck all the way to the back? i got a f-350 ext cab with 8' box, so i probably have to go something like 23' maybe a little more. i know the longer a wire is you will lose some power. what do you think, the 2/0 wire will be just fine? thanks for your help.

I think you would boil your batteries before you overloaded that thick of wire.

Ya... I think that will be plenty thick enough.. Like I said before.. The 1/0 seems to do the trick for me.. but you know what they say.. better to be to big than not big enough

mybigredford.... The one thing that I just remembered is that you shouldn't waste your money on the pre made kits that are available through warn and companies like that.. They are all too small of wire.. like a number 4 or something.. A guy that I know melted that stuff in a very short period of winching himself out of that gumbo mud thats up your way (prince george) So, I would definately recomend the 1/0 or as you found 2/0.. If you go to the passenger side of the truck battery, you can see the frame rial just under it.. I went right down that frame rial all the way to the back of my truck without to much problem... very easy to route that way.. Just tuck it up into the frame and use zap strapps to hold it there.. there's holes in the frame that you can tie to.. that will keep it from bouncing around and rubbing things.. Good luck !! Russ

I agree, I did mine to the frame.. there's no point in running a second cable all that way when you have a huge conductor like your frame..
