02 E4OD to 97
Hey guys.* I'm new here trying to help a buddy out with his F-350.* It is a 1997 and the tranny with 300k on it has met its maker.* I found an F-250 E4OD in the area.* The question for you guys is will it fit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to be in possession of a transmission that does not fit.

Welcome to FTE. you need to give us more info on the trans you want to swap.
Same year? ect ect.
The trans needs to be from a diesel...gassers won't work.
If it's 2wd then the tran will need a new output shaft, needs to be disassemble for that.

yup but the outer dimensions are the same i believe? everything about is the same except for some internal stuff right?
please correct this if i'm wrong i haven't heard any comparisons about these 2 transmissions in at least a year

Internals are a little different but the 4R has a input speed sensor and the soleniod pack has to be swapped out to fit the wiring harness. I not sure on this but the Trans Range sensor may be different and need to be swapped.

Thanks for all the replies. Turns out the source tranny was 2wd and the target is 4wd. From your help and the research I have done replacing the output shaft is above our skill level so he decided to buy another truck to replace this one. Thanks for all your help!
